This Midwestern wedding speaks to the personality of the bride and groom; a couple who loves the outdoors, cooking and trying amazing food. They treated their guests to fresh artisan meats and cheeses, a farm-to-table dinner, and romantic vineyard views at Over the Vines Vineyard + Wine Barn. Kate Weinstein captured every moment of this rustic chic celebration.
WEDDING DATE: 08/13/16
HOW DID YOU MEET? We met through a mutual friend at Summerfest, a huge summer concert festival in Milwaukee.
HOW DID YOU KNOW HE WAS "THE ONE"? Everything was so fun and easy from the beginning. We balanced each other out perfectly from day one. We share common interests in cooking, trying new restaurants, and spending time outdoors.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROPOSAL: I moved to Milwaukee from Michigan, so we don't get to see my family a ton. My family was in town for my graduation from PA (physician assistant) school. We were all over at his parent's house for a "graduation barbeque" and when we were doing a toast to graduation, he got down on one knee. The funny thing is, he asked me to be his husband...and no one realized until we played the GoPro video back later on in the night.
DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS: Whimsical with lots of greenery and local blooms. I had a giant pink dinner plate dahlia that the florist grew in her backyard that made a beautiful pop of color.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR DRESS: I tried on so many dresses and would always like pieces of each one, but I hadn't found one that made me feel like it was "it." My wedding planner recommended a bespoke bridal gown designer, Monica (Monirose Bespoke Gowns). We met a few times and she ended up designing the perfect dress. It was blush, soft, flowy, romantic; all elements that blended with our vineyard venue. It had asymmetric straps which I loved.
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING COLOR PALETTE? I didn't really have a color palette. We dressed the guys in dusty blue suits, and the girls wore dresses that were a muted teal with blush and raspberry floral print.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING? The first look! I'm so glad we ended up doing that.
WERE THERE ANY PERSONAL TOUCHES OR DIY ELEMENTS? My husband built us the pergola we got married under. He came up with the design, found the wood, and built it with his dad. We also added 100 ft.of string lights to create the best ambiance on the outdoor dance floor.
DID YOU USE ANY SPECIALTY LINENS, CHAIRS, TABLES, DINNERWARE OR GLASSWARE? The only thing our venue provided was plastic cups for cocktails and wine. We rented vintage, mix and match china for dinnerware. We also rented glassware for ice water carafes, water glasses, and wine glasses. We created a relaxed, lounge area with a vintage sofa and oversized chairs for people to relax and hang out near the dance floor when their feet needed a break.
